Using ‘alt text’ and ‘featured images’ can help grow your blog.
For example, the theme of this blog is ‘alt text and featured images’. We would want the alt text to read: How to grow your blog by using alt text. So what is alt text? It is what appears if for some reason your image does not load on the website. As well as what will be used to describe the image to the visually impaired. Also, the alt text will be automatically added to the description when someone pins an image from your site.
Now what exactly does that mean? Even if you don’t use Pinterest and have no idea what it is, millions of people use this site daily. They use it to find recipes, look at fashion, find books and so much more. When I pin a book to Pinterest, I use the tag line and buy information. Keywords, persuasive text and a call to action in the description are powerful tools any time. When blogging, pinning, and using any social media, SEO’s should be prevalent in the post.
How to add Alt Text on WordPress:
- When you insert media, you will see a page with the different photos you have uploaded to your blog.
- Look to the right sidebar and you will see a column of various items. About half way down you will see a section called ‘alt text’ this is where you can add your keywords, descriptions and call to action.
Add a featured image on your WordPress blog.
If you don’t have a WordPress blog, I’m not sure if you can do this. However, on your blog there may be something similar. Why is a featured image important? They have different uses. Featured images can be used in a recent posts slider. They can be easily accessed if one wants to see an earlier post. If you use Bloglovin’, your featured image is the image that appears with your post. So, just as with Pinterest, Bloglovin’ needs featured image with great alt text to draw more attention. When we write a blog, we want lots of people to visit our site.
