PINTEREST WEBINAR NOTES

The presenters briefly went through statistics on the chances of someone
seeing what you post/pin on several social media sites (twitter,
linkedin, facebook, pinterest). They said because Pinterest doesn’t use
algorithms, but is driven by users, that pins can be discovered months
or even years later, versus minutes or hours on other social media.

The presenters also briefly covered how to pin a graphic on your boards
or on public boards. This was useful for me because I’m almost a
complete newbie at Pinterest.

What I found the most interesting, probably because I’m a graphic
designer, is what pins have received the most repins for the presenters.

What they found is “tip-o-graphics” or 5 to 20 tips in a tall, thin
graphic about the size of a bookmark are repinned quite frequently. Also
“quote-graphics,” which are short quotes over a graphic image.

They also cautioned not to include lots of graphics in these because
they aren’t very readable on a smart phone and because “they take too
long” to make. I laughed at that because I like the design process.
(However, these presenters were also promoting their fast graphics
business, so consider their slant on speed vs. quality.)

My biggest takeaway and something I want to experiment with is the
quote-graphic. I enjoy doing these and can pull quotes from whichever
book I’m promoting. (I usually rotate a different one each month.)

For authors who use Pinterest, this might also be an alternate format
for the banners I have been designing when I do book covers.
