How to use Goodreads to sell more books: Friends
FRIENDS/FOLLOWERS ON GOODREADS
An author needs friends and follower–lots of them. We need them for our email promo group, twitter, blogs, google +1, snapchat, Instagram and so many more that I’ve probably not heard of. Goodreads offers the ability to friend people you don’t know and follow authors whose books interest you. The reader/author can be selective or accept anyone who sends a friend request. Whether you are a friend or follower the action is one sided and does not need to be reciprocated.
Blog/RSS Feed
One feature Goodreads offers is the connection of the authors blog to Goodreads through the RSS feed. This can be complicated but all an author need do is google RSS feed and follow the directions. If you have a significant other who is talented at this kind of thing, ask for help. I do. This function is two-fold. It allows people to read blog posts on Goodreads as well as the ability to receive notification when a blog is posted.
Newsfeed
Newsfeed, is the front or home page. Scroll down and see what your friends are reading, what they want to read and their reviews. If you are working on Goodreads, make sure if you read a book you review it. Reviews on Goodreads are much easier than amazon. If you just want give it stars, you can. But you can also write a few words about the book. The newsfeed will let your friends know what you are doing and see your reviews. You might be notified when someone adds a book to their shelf, has entered a giveaway or or entered a reading challenge. Sometimes a friend will add a book to their shelf that you have shared with the group. And yes, you will be told about it via the newsfeed.
Following the newsfeed is fun and something I’ve enjoyed doing. If you have a lot of active friends it can be time consuming but likely more educational than spending that same time playing games on your phone or computer.
