Amazon Giveaways:

Not too long ago I was opposed to giving away any books. It seemed to me readers were expecting authors to work for their benefit and for free. Times have changed. Now with the onslaught of millions of indie authors and small presses, it is difficult to sell a book unless you have an established name. Let’s face it your family and friends can only buy so many books. Advertising and using that budget in the best way possible is important. I’ve been and will continue to search for the best use of my advertising dollar.

1. Set up an author page on Amazon. When you decide to give freebies, make sure you have this done, very important. Everyone who enters your contest will have to follow you on your author page. This will help with future releases.
2. More people reading your book. Make sure you reduce the price of your book. I make the books I’m giving away $0.99. That way I can give ten books for a little less than ten dollars. What does this mean? It means ten more people are reading my book. I have a better chance of getting reviews when more people read my book.
3. Your rankings will improve dramatically. I did a 20 book giveaway for one of my books and the rankings went up substantially. Ex. from 42,110 to 7271 and in another category from 82,955 to 9,559. The better your ranking the better chance you have of Amazon advertising your book.

I feel these giveaways can only help build sales. Time will tell and I’ll keep you posted. This advertising thing is a work in progress and changes with time.
