How to use Goodreads to sell more Books: Bookshelves

Despite the fact that the Goodreads site is hard for me to negotiate, meandering through everything gets easier with use. Goodreads is set up for readers not authors. But if one is a creative author, the site can be used to help sell books.

What do all authors want?

TO SELL BOOKS!

This site lists all types of ways to use Goodreads. However, after beginning to use Goodreads the six ways to use this to network only begins to touch on its value and use. As you move through this site you might discover even more uses.

Self Publishing Advice

Book Shelves:

Book Shelves are a useful tool. They help your books become more visible. When readers add books to their book shelves the book comes up in their friends and followers news feeds and notifications.

I needed a tutorial. Originally, I had no idea how to find a book shelf and add books.

BOOK SHELVES FOR DUMMIES:

1.) Go to My Books at the top of the page.

2.) Click on My Books

3.) When you do this, the page you are taken to does not say Shelves or Shelf. Be advised you are now in the right place.

If you want to read a book, list it on your personal book shelf. Consequently, every time you place a book on your shelf, all of your friends see that book.

You can also create personal and unique book shelves. Originally, you will have three book shelves: want to read, reading, and read.

In addition to these you can create more specific shelves. I personally, have another book shelf called my heart books. This shelf is for my all time favorite books that I can read over and over again.

By adding a book to a genre specif shelf it also increases visibility. When searching Goodreads for specific book types, you will see results based on how many times a book was shelved that way. For example if you create a shelf called romantic suspense all the books put on to that shelf now will show up in a search for that. (The more times a book is shelved that way, the higher its chances of coming up on a search).

*THE CATCH:

You have to have friends. A reader without friends won’t be showing anyone their TBR list. (to be read) or WTR (want to read).

There are ways on Goodreads to acquire friends. Search for friends or add the suggested friends listed on your home page.

The best way to sell books is for other people, thousands of people, to see your work. Putting books on your shelf allows other people to see the covers, because covers sell books.

Put your own books on your shelf and review them. In addition, give your books a 5 star rating and don’t feel guilty.

Happy shelving! 🙂

There is a large list of genres and sub-genres on Goodreads Listopia. Readers visit the lists looking for their favorite type of read. To get your book included in a certain genre group, however, someone else must do it for you, authors are not allowed to place their own books there.
Having been added to the list the more votes a book receives the higher up it moves on the list.
This is another way to increase exposure on Goodreads.

Yes Listopia is a very popular way for readers to find books. This is how I usually find books to read. We will be writing blog post about the best way authors can use this function. 🙂
