The quirkiest fact about my “hobby” of rescuing dogs is that it has become
part of my life’s work. It’s not a hobby any more but part of who I am
and the biggest reason I get out of bed. Gotta feed my doggie herd and
pick up poop in the back yard!

My favorite pet is dogs, of course. But don’t ask me to choose a
favorite among the beautiful furbabies who have graced my life. They are
all my favorites in different ways, and I try to honor that in my
writing. My latest release, More Than Just a Dog–which is also the
first book of The Collie Chronicles–celebrates the special role Collies
have played in my life.

Work clothes are perhaps the oddest piece of clothing I own. I dig in
the yard, walk dogs, remodel my house–so these clothes are well used,
faded and torn. If I could get the mud and grass stains out, these jeans
would probably sell for hundreds of dollars in an upscale boutique.

One childhood nickname will remain undisclosed. However, a close high
school friend called me Genie, which became part of my writing
pseudonym.

I collect dogs–or maybe they just come to me. I instantly fall in love
with pretty much any dog I meet. But I will always remember the warning
of a friend from the local humane society: “I don’t want to get a call
some day about a hoarder and have it be you.”

Ah, yes, heroes. Mine are usually nameless people who quietly make the
lives of others better with words of wisdom or actions in times of
trauma that make me think, “That’s perfect. Wish I had thought of that.”
